About Porsenchey

Porsenchey (or Pou Senchey) is a Khan subdivided into 11 communes (Sangkats) in which the International Airport is located.

It covers much of the western part of the capital, located about 10km south west of the city centre. It is the largest of all 12 Khans of Phnom Penh and houses about 200,000 residents.

Por Senchey – one of the largest Khans in the city – is attractive for developers to build residential projects.

This is largely due to the area’s relatively low land prices, large available land parcels and proximity to city centre.

Sandwiched between the city and south western suburbs, developers targeted the area for homes priced $30,000 and $70,000, suitable for low-mid income families.

In 2017, Por Senchey had 94 major developments and 111 smaller-scale projects under construction (30,000 residential units).

With its high population density, the area has more factories and residential projects than any other district in Phnom Penh.

Since then, however, land prices in the area have increased dramatically.

About nearby Sen Sok and Tuol Kork

Sen Sok district was formerly part of Kandal province but was absorbed into Phnom Penh’s expansion.

Sen Sok was also created through the merger of three Sangkats (Khmuonh, Phnom Penh Thmei and Tuek Thla).

The area is home to about 10% of the city’s population, located in the northwest which is a fast-growing region of development.

Toul Kork (or TK as it is locally known) lies in the north and northwest of Phnom Penh cut by Russian Boulevard from the CBD.

Toul Kork (shortened to TK) literally means ‘ground hill’ in Khmer.

It is located to the north of the city centre, including the areas around Boeung Kak Lake and the areas further to the west.

Not being in the city, TK is good for people wanting a quiet life.

It has a mix of properties on wide roads, giving it a spacious suburban feel.

Now it has a more commercial feel, joining Tonle Bassac, Daun Penh and BKK and now boasts an increased number of commercial activities and is a good housing option.

TK Development

TK has many developments including condos, boreys, supermarkets, hospitals, schools, restaurants and coffee shops.

This makes it one of the best places to live in Phnom Penh, with AEON Mall 2, the country’s 2nd international mall 15 minutes away.

There are many institutions and businesses in TK including RUPP, IFL, Institute of Technology, Pannasastra, Tax Dept and Ministry of Labour.

Despite many completed and ‘in construction’ high rises, villas and gated communities dominate the area.

Wealthy Cambodian families like to live in or near TK. As affluence has grown, the area has birthed many retail shops.

A short history of colonial villas

Phnom Penh was an important hub for French colonialists.
