About Tonle Bassac
Tonle Bassac, a Sangkat in Chamkarmon, is located on the west side of the Tonle Bassac River.
It covers around 3 square kilometres flanked by Sihanouk Blvd, Norodom Blvd and National Road 1.
The area is known for having a myriad of small alleys that branch off into larger streets. These alleys are full of bars and restaurants, hotels and residences secluded from the busy city centre.
Reclaimed land (known as Koh Pich) has undergone a lot of development over recent years.
It is now home for many condos, exhibition halls, hotels and other icons such as The Bridge, The Peak and Di Riviera.
A number of embassies are also located in Tonle Bassac – Thai, Australian, Japanese, Indonesian, Russian, Malaysian, South Korea and Philippines.
The area is also home to many government buildings and gated communities.
Consequently, you will notice increased security presence (private, police and national security).
About nearby BKK 3:
Boeung Keng Kang 3, or more commonly known as BKK 3 is becoming increasingly popular. It is located in Khan Chamkarmon, a rising star in the centre of Phnom Penh.
It is one of the most sought-after areas due to it being close to BKK 1, but without the price tag. Due to lower rent prices, many expats choose this area.
However, lower purchase prices are also attracting investors to purchase real estate here. BKK 3 has both modern and older, more traditional Khmer style properties.
However, it is changing as more luxury residences and real estate projects spring up.
BKK 3 is close to a dozen embassies, many NGOS, schools, countless businesses and shops.
It is considered desirable by wealthy Cambodians and expatriates alike as it has the best of traditional Khmer and modern living, yet is a quiet city locale.
BKK 3 is in close proximity to popular shopping areas, such as TTP (Toul Tom Pong or Russian Market), Olympic Market, all of which have a wide selection of restaurants and cafes.
There are many local stores selling clothes, fashion accessories, household goods, shoes and more.
With the number of educational facilities in the area, there are also many shops selling stationery, books, computers and so on.
Phnom Penh Villa – a short history
Phnom Penh was an important hub for French colonialists with its wide roads, beautiful gardens, grand villas and colonial mansions earned it the undisputed title ‘Pearl of Asia’ in the 1920s.
From this time, the city expanded rapidly. Chaktomuk is located in Daun Penh; an area under transformation with countless new developments and infrastructure upgrades.
It is a culturally significant area with its landmarks like Wat Botum Park, Botumvatey Pagoda and Independence Monument.
It is also very popular for its many restaurants, cafes, embassies, NGO offices, and boutique hotels.
