About BKK (Boeung Keng Kang):
BKK 1 is defined by Sihanouk, Norodom, Mao Tse Tung and Monivong Boulevards.
It is the centre of town and a popular area with banks, hotels, restaurants, shops and bars, known as the ‘foreign capital’ and many a business deal is made here.
BKK 1 is pricey, but attractive and accommodation is mid to upper standard due to location and build quality.
The Swiss, Bulgarian and Swedish embassies, various NGOs and company HQs and many schools offering world standard education are also located in this area.
The local market offers a range of goods including fresh food, clothes, jewelry, money exchanges and household goods and nearby is a wide selection of international F + B options including coffee shops and bakeries.
After dark the streets come alive with bars, clubs, hotel rooftops and restaurants.
Things are pricier but you won’t want for much more… this neighbourhood has pretty much everything.
About nearby Bassac Lane:
Amid the damage to the hospitality industry by COVID, one area in Phnom Penh seems to be defying the odds, including bustling Bassac Lane, St 308 and St 21 where you will find cozy venues surrounded by new apartments.
The area is a collection of groovy little streets with cool bars and eateries almost hidden away, literally the fun area with a distinct western vibe with bars in a different theme or style to suit.
COVID-19 slowed business but it bounced back and now the nights are full of music as people return to their old habits.
Bassac Lane is now so full of bars and hole-in-the-wall venues that new venues are spilling into Street 308 and Street 21.
Because land prices here are 10-20% less than BKK 1, prices are cheaper all round and prices of food and drinks are attractive with bars selling cocktails at $3, draught beer at $1 and meals from $5.
Amidst the activity, there is a sense of optimism despite tourist numbers down.
Instead of going to the usual haunts on Street 136 and Pub Street, check out Bassac Lane where the night lights are brighter.
Postcode 12000 real estate made easy
Real estate, especially in the rental market, is not easy to navigate around as there’s a lot on offer and prices vary depending on where, when and what you are looking for.
The city offers a range of properties, so it is important you know what is available.
Covid made things difficult for everyone and all over the city, people started negotiating heavily and although there is some residual goodwill, much has gone and prices are now close to pre-pandemic levels.
So don’t expect real estate miracles anymore!
