Mekong River bridge connecting Phnom Penh
Areyksat is due for significant development as the South Korean government explores options for a Mekong River bridge connecting Phnom Penh to Kandal Province and the spin offs for Chroy Changvar are enormous as the city’s centre of gravity shifts eastwards.
Areyksat, on the eastern bank of the Mekong, is mooted to fall under the jurisdiction of Phnom Penh and will become a satellite city with shopping malls, residential, commercial, leisure and entertainment precincts.

2024 opportunities (and challenges)
Recent times have presented significant global challenges and 2024 clearly has its own, though some commentators are suggesting it will bring both further challenges along with positive opportunities for Cambodia.
The property market faces an oversupply of projects, albeit within a macro environment of strong GDP growth and decreasing inflation with both Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville at the head of the pack. It is not surprising, therefore, that after years of hot growth, the residential sector finally encountered strong headwinds with a combination of intense competition and weak demand.
Yet, despite this doom and gloom, the government continues to invest in large infrastructure projects, along with an increased focus on agriculture, eco-tourism, and value-add manufacturing to help diversify the economy.
